Storytelling

I think we are all more or less in a place where we want to learn how to tell good stories. Current.com is a website oft-recommended by Dr. Wilson. They have a "storytelling section", including great video based inspiration from Storytellers like Robert Redford, Dave Eggers, Ira Glass...the Ira Glass video is especially worth watching. Actually at the risk of sounding too serious, watching this video in full will probably be the best thing you do today.

Watching this video has in fact been the best thing I have done today. The Ira Glass section was excellent, during which I wrote down several nuggets of wisdom. One of which, “If you’re not failing all the time, you’re not creating a situation where you can get super lucky,” is particularly valuable for ethnographic film makers to remember.

In addition, this site is a valuable resource for concise tips about production, lighting, editing, etc. I recommend checking out the other sections to refresh your memory about simple tips like the “five second rule” and so on.
